What would you do with $10,000?
• Travel to Italy?
• Shut up the debt collectors?
• Impress your friends with a killer party?
One little trout is all that stands between you and $10,000.
On Saturday, May 19 the Aurora Reservoir will be hosting the annual $10,000 Trout Tournament where the largest trout (based on weight) will win $10,000 cash.
You may be thinking, “One LITTLE trout? Yeah right!”
The winner in 2011 weighed 3.5 pounds.
2010: just shy of 3 pounds.
Compare that to a recent stocking at the Aurora Reservoir where the 130 stocker trout averaged 5 pounds.
Anyone can win. And if you don’t win the $10,000 you could win thousands of dollars in additional prizes.
So let’s say you don’t know how to fish. The Aurora Reservoir Park Rangers are currently holding fishing classes for beginners on Tuesday nights from 6:30 to 7:30 PM. Anyone can attend, no registration required, the only cost is 10.00 per vehicle for entry into the park.
Any more excuses? I didn’t think so.
To register for the $10,000 Trout Tournament and read the complete competition rules go to www.auroragov.org/reservoirs or you can register in the Aurora Reservoir Park Office located at 5800 S. Powhaton Road Aurora, CO 80016. For any questions please call 303-690-1286 or email Crystal Yusten: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Registration for the tournament is 40.00 which includes a raffle entry, catered lunch, and a great time with friends and fellow fisherpeople! Make sure to register early as this event fills up quickly.
Boaters will be required to pass an inspection for Aquatic Invasive Species before entering the water and an annual $10 Watercraft Access Pass is required. Inspections and Watercraft Access Passes are required for all vessels including belly boats and pontoon boats. Gas motors are not permitted for use at Aurora Reservoir. Boaters are strongly encouraged to visit the reservoir prior to the tournament for a boat inspection and to obtain a Watercraft Access Pass. Upon inspection boats will be sealed; however, if the seal is broken or tampered with, an additional inspection will be required.
Aurora Reservoir named Westword's 2012 Best Park For Fishing! Trout Tournament is mentioned!
Night Fishing at the Aurora Reservoir -
The Aurora Reservoir is currently home to three state record fish including the 2011 small mouth bass caught less than a month ago. This might be your chance to catch a whopper of a fish and have a great time with friends. Dinner is included in registration.

I can’t believe that one of my events has reached capacity a full three DAYS before the event! Advertising is a tricky business and not one I’m wholly familiar with, so I honestly cannot explain this turn of events.
A bit of background, this is the third year for the Galloping Goose and never once have we come close to reaching capacity. Then there was my nearly-cancelled Fall Fishing Contest that narrowly escaped execution just weeks ago.
I have been managing events for years and I still don’t understand all of the factors that contribute to participation numbers, but I can say I am truly thankful that my events are gaining popularity.
Also, if you were hoping to run the Galloping Goose 5K/10K race, we will have limited race-day registration this Saturday but make sure to be there early (registration opens at 8 a.m.)!
On October 22nd the City of Aurora Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department will be holding the Galloping Goose 5K/10K race at Quincy Reservoir. Quincy Reservoir is a beautiful place to run as it is an oasis in the heart of our city. Surrounded by trees, a runner-friendly crusher-fine path, and tons of wildlife, Quincy Reservoir is a place you’ll be dreaming about running months after you’ve participated in our race!
Spots are going fast, register today!
